What type of cherry tree is this?

It’s a “Carmine Jewel “ dwarf cherry bush. Well I know nothing about fruit trees and never sprayed or pruned it. It’s hardy, self pollinating, and a great producer but - not dwarf. The cherries are tart but sweet enough to snack from the tree Very short harvest window , can spoil quickly or get bruised in transportation. That’s why they are so expensive and hard to find.

I read on other thread your concern with the peach tree. I do not answer posts there, but do read them. I certainly do feel your sentiment with that tree,, since it is as precious to you. Same age as your son.
Here are my thoughts. 2 options.
Bend tree slightly so it grows next to the Roof overhang of the run. That can be done with some small nylon straps pulling it in the desired direction. After a while, the tree will maintain that position naturally.
Here is the strap I refer to. You can also use the lighter duty ones that come as a 4 pack for about the same price as this one.

Second option, though more drastic, but still successful. Build the overhanging roof with an opening in it to accommodate tree growing thru the roof. You can secure the opening with hardware cloth by fashioning it so there is no gap between roof, and tree trunk.

I may try to bend it away. I have a bunch of winch straps already. I'll need to put an anchor in the ground to connect it to. Worth a try...

I'll have to keep an eye out for one of them. The last couple of years planted two apple trees three pear trees and an apricot

Poultry were saying there was something they didn't like along the west field fence. I seen the fence and weeds wiggling. There was a mink trying to pull what was left of a 9 wk pullet through. It ran as soon as it seen me.
I put the carcass in a plastic grocery bag, I carry for such things, and put it in a box trap near where it was. I had a hen missing at lock up in the closest coop. Guess I know what happened to her.

Sorry for your losses. I hope you get the little weasel.

My neighbor recommended to me a blow up flapping man to scare off predators. Her sister has one in her poultry yard. It worked so well last year, their neighbors got one. Not sure I want my yard to look like a car dealership but it might help.

someone on byc posted that they did that for hawks. had to move it every so often, but it worked . They were out in the open country.

I played that video while my son was holding his hen, Poot. That poor unsuspecting chicken got scared out of her mind when she heard the mink.

I guess it’s instinct because I doubt she’s ever seen one.
