I've fixed my escape chicken problem :D

I have come home the past couple days and found the chicks in various locales around my house! In the bathroom, in my bed, on my dogs pillow...I crate my dogs when I leave the house, I can't believe I didn't think about "crating" my chicks!

So, maybe I'm not a genius, but the idea came to me like a lightbulb going off in my head.

Unfortunately we aren't very well established in our new home yet, so my supplies were limited to old bamboo stakes and leftover window screen.

I think I'll make a better one, considering I have more babies coming and this will most likely continue to be a problem.

[Please don't mind those dead seed pods in the first picture [they grew so well inside but as soon as I put them out to harden them off, they all dropped dead]

haha i had to do the same when my chicks were only 2 weeks old!
i had some screening left over and in the picture you can sort of see the clips holding it to the box... i had no choice after seeing this:

the screens there but i was leaving it open when i was home... now it stays closed all of the time!!

Curious, the one roosting doesn't look silkie but looks like a paint. Is that actually a spot of black feathering on it's back?

Yes! she/he is growing in white feathers but there is the occasional black one... i'm really confused as to what breed it is... heres a better pic
the older it gets the more black feathers are showing up... but only a few... there are some on the other side as well
oh and someone pooped on her so thats what the brown is lol

dont silkies have 5 toes? I only count 4

I have some plastic garden netting that I buy by the roll and just put it on top, tucking it under the edge of my plastic brooder bin. I had to do this when one started roosting on top of the feeder. I do like the idea of a lid. It would make it easier to take off and put back. Hmmmmm
