Our big red rooster recently died, and we were just heartbroken. So my daughter had the bright idea of hatching off some fertile eggs we had that had been in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks in the hopes of getting a rooster like him. (He was gorgeous!) Well, they were due to hatch on Sunday, but nothing happened, so we thought they were duds, but decided to give them a few more days. This morning, we found one had hatched and two more were pipping.

Here's the odd part. One of the chicks is a gold colored, which we know is from our gold hen. However, he has feathers on his feet. The hen does not have feathered feet, and neither did the rooster. I've been trying to figure this out, but can't come up with an explanation, unless it's some recessive gene that's come out. (Either that, or one of my silkie roosters in the pen next to the big coop somehow teleported through two fences and left his contribution. Highly unlikely though. LOL!)

Has anyone ever had this happen with a chick before?
