Few ideas:
1. PAM spray
2. Flip-flops
3. A clean footed companion to carry them on their back
4. Skateboards
5. Oriental wooden shoes
6. Teach them to walk tippy-toed

I agree. WD-40 is probably not the best method. One of it's main ingredients is fish oil. If you could get a hold of some fish oil and put on their feet it should be safe for when they preen. And it may even give them some protein (not sure how much protein fish oil contains, if any).

But then of course your chickens will smell like fish, so the raccoons will love them even more.
