I posted the other day how much I adore every aspect of my new little flock right down to cleaning their pen. But today it is evident...I AM AN ADDICT. Went to get bedding. Came back with theseplus two more Pekin, who are almost 3 weeks.

We got 2 Pekin, 2 brahma, 3black sex link and what now I know to be a leghorn which is apparently a cockerel. Several days later I got a Khaki Campbell and 4 RIRs. That was a month ago. Today we brought home 2 Rouen, 2 more Pekin, 2 Silver Polish and 2banties...one of which I believe is a silkie so I am happy! 14 chicks and 7 ducks...so far

I’m getting pretty bad myself.. last year I was supposed to start with 4 but got 8.. and this year got 3 more and then a little later bought 4 Cochin bantam babies and gave them to my Silkie to adopt! She is a good mama! And now my BO is broody and I’m tempted to get some babies for her too ...

Silkies are the best mamas! Our old hen always went broody and adopted any chick from day old to almost 3 weeks old we've had them adopt. Incredible birds!

She is the only Silkie I have with all the big gals.. but she has never been my favorite as she is not friendly or very personable.. she isn’t mean at all just stays as far from you as she can.. she trusts me but isn’t my friend... all of my others want to be my friend... but she is a great mama so it’s okay

Really! Ours was like when she was broody, but she came when called and loved to be held when she wasn't. People say it all depends on breed, kinda but it usually depends on the bird. our friend has the kindest RIR roo and has the meanest buff orpington hen! opposites of the stereo type people have given them.
