I'm afraid to slaughter my ladies

I've said this before; killing shouldn't be easy but, in my opinion, doing it all yourself really makes you appreciate and give thanks for the bounty set in front of you. Besides, when egg stop coming you may look at things differently and an aged bird is more flavorful then a young bird and gives a stew or soup something store bought birds can never do.
I'm pretty sure I'd be fine eating it. However, and this is going to sound stuck up and too city girlish-I've never cooked chicken on a bone and don't know how to eat it. There, I said it. Anyway, I was going to use it all for stews & soups anyways, so I'd be taking it off the bone. But picturing being the one killing them and getting the blood out...I just don't know....I've watched videos, read plenty of directions...just not sure.

And that's all OK. I grew up as a city girl, too. We all have to start somewhere. There is nothing wrong with taking them in to a processing place and having them kill and clean your birds. We leave some whole and roast them like a turkey, cut some up for eating that way, and bone some out to pressure can to use in soups, stews, hot dishes, as salad and sandwich meat, and for anything else you might need cooked chicken for (think enchiladas). Do you know anyone who has butchered chickens who could come work with you the first time or two if you do decide to give it a try?

As Bobbi stated, we all start from somewhere and none of us were born with anything but potential and you'll make mistakes along the way but if you show me someone who hasn't you'll also show me someone who hasn't started. As for city vs. country you're talking irrelevance for many "country folk" have no knowledge of what goes on here. ;) Enjoy, make mistakes, learn and prosper. :)
