I want to thank you all for easing my mind. Now I can open the middle door that separates the 2 flocks so they can learn to get along. The nesting is on the other side. There will be 20 hens in there and 1 roo so he will be busy. I'll have to separate the americaunas in the spring so they are fertile for sure so I can sell eggs and chicks. Good thing with this coop is all I have to do is shut the door between.

I'm thrilled. We're thinning some of he stock and building other stock and these RIR have been on one side of the laying coop waiting till they where big enough to fend for themselves against the laying hens on the other side of the wire. They have been together before when the grandsons decided to open the middle door that separates them and them locked them all in together. I think they just went in to check for eggs and left the middle door open. But nobody was hurt and a few months ago I had introduced 10 what I thought where pullets. Turned out they where 50/50 and they got along so these should do fine. Lucky Duck thinks she rules the roost so she always lets new comers know where they are in line. She's also the hen that all the roosters want. She must really be hot in the chicken world. lol I bet ith's her fuzzy butt

Anyway, I'm glad she's a she and tomorrow i'll start the introductions. If she's gonna lay soon then she needs access to the nesting area.

OT, get an Ameraucana rooster. There is no such thing as an Americana.

Well, I opened the door in between the two coops and let them get to know each other. The only problem was my blue Orphington pullet. She was the dominant one on with the RIR's and she would pick a fight between the fence with the black hen on the other side. It was on when the black hen came into the BO's side. The BO won't be in there in a few weeks anyway. Her and her new husband will have their own pen. Newley (sp) wed suite. Buddy, te roo, was lost, almost in a panic. With 9 more girls joining in. He don't know that he's joining us to chickenstock in a couple weeks and will be replaced. I'm sure i'll find him a nice home where he can just hang out and do the rooster thing.
