I'm confused by saddle feathers

I am sorry both your gals ended up being boys, that can be disheartening. Also your SLW looks to be extremely poor quality...I would even go so far as to suggest a mix...Hope the breeder rights it for you.

In the first pix of this series, there is a Columbian looking chicken facing the reed barn door.....is that a Columbian rock? If so, do you mind me asking where you got her? A PM is ok too

Thanks

The chicken in question was sold to me as a Sussex.

From what I've read she certainly seems to be consistent with that breed (layed her first egg 2 weeks ago so at least I know she's not a rooster!!)

She came from a small hobby farm here in Enfield, Nova Scotia, the owners of the farm get chickens from all over the province so I don't know where she was originally bred.

Wow I would have thought Columbian rock also with the Yellow leg.
Sussex should have White/Pink legs..

I have to agree. I am new & bought from a feed store that gets hatchery chicks. My SLW pullets have much better color/penciling then that roo. Also what's up with the brown in the SLW roo? Makes me think not pure. Not trying to dishearten you even more with this breeder, oopses do happen. Here is one of my SLW pullets.
