I am getting two hens. I'm just wondering how much eggs do hens lay per day I was reading some of the comments and a lot of people were saying that they lay 1-3 eggs per day. Can anyone tell me the right answer to that

Hi and

Hens generally lay an egg a day. However, it takes 25 hours for an egg to be formed, so sometimes they will skip a day or even lay 2 eggs in one day. It also depends upon the breed. Production layers will lay more often than other breeds that are bred for ornamental purposes, for example. Also, if chickens are stressed, ill, molting, or broody, that will cause them to stop laying.

Good luck!

Welcome to BYC!
What age/breed are your new hens?

Don't be worried when your hens don't lay eggs for a while after moving into a new environment.
That is very stressful to them and they'll need time to adjust.
Also, heat is a factor regarding egg laying.
For example, it has been very hot here and I am only getting 5 eggs a day from my mature hens and only 2 or 3 pullet eggs from my younger girls.

Good luck!
