I'm going to court.... what should I ask for damages?

hi, thank you everyone for your input.
I'm nervous and trying not to second-guess how it's going to go.
Will post after I find out something - and it may not be same day as hearing.
thanks again - YOU'RE ALL THE BEST!

Good luck! In my state the code allows $10 per bird. Don't know if your state has any limits but I hope you get compensated. I went thru a similar situation several months ago and the owners paid part of what they agreed upon with animal control, I decided not to go to court but sometimes wish I had! GOOD LUCK!!!

It's probably to late but what about the fence or gate? If you had to change or reinforce it shouldn't you ask for that money too.
only if it was damaged. If the dogs broke the gate and you had to repair or replace it, then you can add that in. Just making changes for security reasons don't count as damages. It doesn't hurt to list them, just be aware that they are likely to be denied. If nothing else, it can show that you are serious about taking steps to make sure that it doesn't happen again.

We had a dog tear down a wall of our run and kill 8 of our 10 hens. We were livid, I am glad you were able to find out who the dog belongs to. Let us know how it goes.

Yes, please let us know how it went. I went to small claims for another issue. I was SO glad it wasn't like Judge Judy! I was extremely nervous, though. Hope your case went well!

hi, I didn't forget to come back. It's been a crazy week here with work and company staying over.
The court didn't go well, there is a continuance, I'll report back around 9-11-12 or so.
I'm rather emotional about the 'incident', the delay, and the confusion at court. I had no one to speak for me.

I need to know what to value my broody hen at.
I know that some of you are PLAGUED with broody hens and I'd love to come and get one - - -

I depended on her hatching & raising chicks for a hunk of my income. Now I have to BUY chicks at the feedstore and raise them in the house (pee-yew!) for 3 weeks, plus lots of extra care for another 3 weeks once they are outside with the flock. $3.50 per chick versus $3.00 for a carton of fertile eggs (I have no rooster).

Any leads on getting a replacement broody?

Any opinion on value of a reliable broody?
