I'm gonna recommend a GUN

I've done some target shooting. Know about stinky Eley. I swear they put peat moss in it.

OK so, the weather's FINALLY given it a break, gonna check the zero and check out how it does with rat shot tomorrow, check for patterns at X meters. I wish I'd done it this afternoon, had the classic possum about 10' away up in a tree scenario tonight, wimped out and got the pellet gun and gave 'im something to remember me by.

Any decent guns for under $100 that will not shoot super far and not be very loud? Looking for a pellet gun to shoot critters but we are in 1-2 acre lots,so I gotta watch about shooting outside the yard. Also the kids would want to plink with it I am sure.

Yes that's the idea! I want those kinda sights, ghost ring and post front. And a flashlight that hangs under the forearm. This night-time stuff, shots are within 10 meters.

Last night I shot a small possum maybe 15' overhead, I used the pellet gun because I don't know how the CCI shotshells group in my Henry yet, I'll test that today, and I don't have it zeroed - it's likely zeroed just fine but I need to check.

It's finally not raining so I can do a little basic zeroing, mainly for now I want to file the notch in the rear sight way out.

I *will* have a ghost ring, I'll likely have to make one, I'm thinking take a .22 scope ring and work from that, clamp it on the .22 scope rail that's built into the receiver. I've been looking at sights and whew, $50 and up, for something that's a bigger "lump" on the gun than I want.

OK now on a decent under-$100 pellet gun. I have a Gamo Delta, good for about 500-550 fps, not a powerhouse, and "youth" sized. It fits me and there's a definite place in the scheme of things for a pellet gun that's not too powerful. There's the Gamo Big Cat/Whisper/etc that are its big brother. Gamos are pretty good. Daisy and Crosman make pretty good guns, there are some Beeman and Walther branded stuff that's out of China.

You can find Sheridans all over, even on Craig's List - it turns out pellet guns are OK there, I've seen a Feinwerkbau 602 for sale not all that long ago! (Um, you probably don't want to drop $1500 on a Feinwerkbau 602 although that's a killer deal.)

Pyramyd Air is the leading mail-order airgun place, or frankly, Wal-Mart is pretty good.

I grew up with a Benjamin air gun - sure wish I still had that one. I do have a Benjamin air pistol. No finer air guns made in my humble opinion. Sheridans are also excellent and manufactured by Benjamin/Sheridan U.S.A. They're a bit on the expensive side but well worth the cost, especially if you plan on having it for the duration.

I used the pellet gun because I don't know how the CCI shotshells group in my Henry yet,

Shotshells won't seriously hurt a possum, even with the gun just inches away,

Stick to pellets if you want to kill them, or use a real bullet in the Henry

The CCI shotshells are TERRIBLE for grouping, spread very WIDE right off.

The gun shoots to the left, good groups though. I'm in the process of taking the rear sight notch out wider and a bit deeper, and will move it over a bit too.

The short barrel makes even CB Longs kinda loud.

If I can put little hollow point holes into CB Longs, I'll have the perfect load for this gun.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have been looking at PA gun site and walmart over the weekend. Hope to pick something out this week.

I've done a little shooting to see where it's zeroed, it's dead-on for elevation, but shoots about an inch left at 7 yards, I can compensate for that, I need to 'drift" the rear sight to compensate.

Wal-Mart sells a little low-profile laser sight that goes right on a .22 grooved receiver, for about $35. I'm wondering if that might be a useful thing on this.

What bugs me that I wasn't thinking about though: It's a bit LOUD. 16.25" barrel means, even CB Longs are a bit noisy. In the heat of battle with varmints, I doubt anyone's gonna care. But no casual plinking with this little guy.
