Right. Plus, it's silkies (blues!) and seramas and they are shipping from Ocala, FL, where I grew up. I may be silly but there is something very sentimental about that. If I get a rooster, I might call him "Knight" after my high school mascot.
I got no Rouen ducks last time, though all developed. We did have that poorly timed cold snap at the end of incubation though, so I don't think it was the eggs' fault. This time, if anything happens at all in the eggs I will get Pekins, Pekin x Rouen, Pekin x Runner, and Pekin x Khaki Campbell. I am hopeful, but I'm also cynical. I candle before I put eggs into the bator, because I have chosen the wrong Up end before on questionable ones. The air cells were overly large and broken. I have a feeling that the eggs were laid at or before the start of the auction and by the time they came to me (the seller wanted money order also), they were old. It's just a feeling. I am going to watch them closely as things progress. If I get two or more ducks, though, it will have been worth it.
The last time I had a busted air cell, it was the only Egyptian Fayoumi egg I had (you should know that's the one I REALLY wanted to have hatch and it came with the air cell bust...I'll have some of them one day). Well, that time, the poor thing got all the way, but never pipped and it got shrink wrapped in its shell due to poor weather making my filled water troughs empty very quickly. It was the reason I was hatching in cartons. I felt that might be easier on the busted cell.
