I'm having speech trouble and it's getting embarrasing!

Equally excellent post.

Actually, thyroid function is one of those things that MD's don't always test when they should.

Hmmm, one day last week it took me 3 hours to remember my cat's name....

It's taken me a lot longer to remember your cat's name, so don't feel bad.

Do you remember MY cat's name?

When my neurologist put me on my current migraine (those by themselves can make you forgetful) meds he warned me that they would make me "really stupid." Nobody's noticed.

PS: The other day I forgot the word floor, and my family didn't find it odd. It makes me wonder how often I'm forgetting words if such a basic word doesn't even faze them.

This is really familiar....

I was forgetting words, and I have always been very good in English and grammar. My high school literature teacher made a notation on one of my assignments: "I love your command of the English language"... (maybe she was really bored that day

) I was forgetting things I'd normally never forget. I'd wander from room to room, not knowing why I'd gotten up or if I was going to get something. (I still do that, but usually remember what it was AS SOON AS I SIT BACK DOWN.... -- still don't know why I couldn't remember BEFORE I sit. My knees would thank me profusely). I'd be driving down the road, and suddenly have NO CLUE where I was going for a few frightening seconds. I'd go outside to get the mail and come back in an hour later, through the back door, without the mail. They don't call it "fibro fog" (aka fibromyalgia fog) for nothing... I still deal with some of these issues, but getting the right amount and quality of sleep helps tremendously. Keeping my blood sugar in better control (still having major struggles with that) also makes an enormous difference. My DH has mentioned more than once that in his opinion, it's because I have too much responsibility toward animals. Well, if that be the case someone had better develop a superdrug for it, because as long as I can keep them fed and cared for like they should be cared for, they're not going anywhere... sometimes I think they're the only thing that keeps me sane (so to speak... stop laughing, you guys!

I'm there too. I'm 43 years old and the only medication I'm on is armour thyroid (for hypothyroidism). I'm frequently mixing up words or trying to grasp the missing word for a common object.

Have you been getting enough sleep? I have fibromyalgia and when I don't get a good nights sleep I not only forget words, mess words up, but also loose my thought while I am speaking and it is completely Gone as if I had never even started speaking in the first place. You may have heard of "brain fog"? That's me. My memory is really going, and then it comes back around for a brief vacation before heading off again. You might try taking melatonin just before bed to help you sleep. It won't hurt you, as it is a homeopathic and natural sleep aid. Just a thought(and it was even a complete thought!)

Take care!!!

Kat, those three posters that mention Fibromyalgia have really made a connection for me. I have it too, and your symptoms are so right on for that. Of course, there's much more to FM than just the 'fog' but it's a major issue. And a few have mentioned getting the right sleep, and even those who have brought up thyroid issues have a good point. Keep following up with your doc, but also keep an open mind regarding regular changes in your life. Age, hormones, etc. And then for a lot of us there's that "in and out" syndrom. A lifetime of information has come into your brain. All the space is taken up. At some point if something new comes in, something old has to go out. Hahah, just a joke, but sometimes I use that as an excuse for forgetting some basic information. Keep laughing, it actually helps.

Well, I dont know about you gritsar, but I'll be making a Dr. appt today.

I think its just stress and I suffer from anxiety and a slight case of agorophobia so its probably all related but am taking the advice of our fellow BYC'ers and checkin with the doc.

I do the same thing when I am fatigued. If I miss too much sleep I can't find words, sentences come out strangely and sometimes I slur words. A couple of good nights of sleep ususally takes care of it.

Good Luck figuring it out, hope its nothing serious.

Hi T! Good to "see" ya! As you know, I do have fibromyalgia, only they (doctors) think it's not fibromyalgia anymore. We're figuring it out, but these things take take.
Thanks for all the concern and replies y'all.
