I'm having this odd issue with my eyes: anyone know what it might be?

OK I wasn't going to go there, but. I have a close friend that was having trouble adjusting to new glasses, she thought. Got in a car accident, went to the eye doctor, he sent her to the emergency room, and within a few hours was havivng a toumur removed from her brain. That was two weeks ago. Now the doctor has told her she has 3 months to a year to live. I don't care how long you have to sit and wait. GO SEE A DOCTOR!

Here is a little info. on what are called floaters. I had them for a brief time several years ago. They never did find the exact cause, however they eventually faded away and I've had no more problems with them. Keep us informed...

Sounds like an Ocular Migrane -- Glad to hear you are going to the opthalmologist -- Hope you get this cleared up.

I found this in the link that Chook-A-Holic posted, and this sounds like what I have, so I'll be curious to find out what the doc says:

People with ocular migraines can have a variety of visual symptoms. Typically you will see a small, enlarging blind spot (scotoma) in your central vision with bright, flickering lights (scintillations) or a shimmering zig-zag line (metamorphopsia) inside the blind spot. The blind spot usually enlarges and may move across your field of vision. This entire migraine phenomenon may end in only a few minutes, but usually lasts as long as about 20-30 minutes.

Generally, ocular migraines are considered harmless. Usually they are painless, cause no permanent visual or brain damage and do not require treatment.

You're lucky they go away. I have had a 'cotton wool spot' in one eye that stays for a couple of months when it shows up. I only really notice it when I'm in the sunshine or around a bright light, but it's the broken glass / kaleidescope kinda thing like you're talking about. Had to have some weird test done to make sure there wasn't anything major going on in the brain / eye blood vessels. There wasn't, so I was told it was just a wierd thing that happens to some people and to ignore it. But it can be an indicator of SERIOUS issues, so I'm glad you went to the doctor.

As I'm sitting here reading though, I feel like it's coming back... and I'm really leaning toward the ocular migraine. I had no idea there was such a thing. BYC members are soo helpful!

Oh yeah, my kaleidoscope thing isn't really colored (there's a little) but I say kaleidoscope because of the way it looks... like broken glass i guess!
