MISSING !!! She is 2 years old and mated with one of our males...
it has been 3 weeks since mating....yesterday found a 'soft shell'
egg under her roosting tree....
all of our peafowl are free rangers and never missed bedtime!!!
is it possible, at 2, that is she laying an egg in some hidden nest??
and if so, will she come home tonight??

hope that is what it is because I'd hate to lose her forever....
hate the idea that something may have gotten her...

usually the 4 of the peafowl hang out together and rarely
leave each other for more than an hour at most....

my boys have been calling for her but no replies....

Pea experts, what do you think????

I WANT HER HOME AND AM SO WORRIED.....

I wish I could offer advice, but I have no experience with free range peas. I can only send hugs and thoughts for her to come home!

Is it possible that she went to make a nest?? I'm no expert though. Hope she comes home...
at her young age and lack of experience, I just don't know...was hoping someone might could tell me...
and if she is making a nest, will she stay with it or come home til ready to sit on it??.... but thanks for your thoughts..

thanks for the well wishes! am hoping someone with 'free range' peas will see this thread and have an answer for me...
now the guineas have joined in with the other peacocks calling out for her (...I think,anyway...)...to hurry home, it's past bedtime!

Just went out and no Jade...

I bet she has a nest somewhere, it has happened here 2 times already, i let them both sit but both got off the nest after week to a week and a half.
When mine were sitting they sat for a couple days before they come off to eat and that was in the early morning around 9 AM they would go back to the nest and the next time they came off they never went back.
Mine are also under the age of 2, won't be 2 till august.

Wished i could come help you find her i know she is close by, sometimes i found mine laying in plain site in the woods, one had 4 eggs befor i accidently ran accross her, they are in the bator now

I can understand your concern, but don't worry, she probably has made a nest somewhere.
She may have been laying eggs there for a few days before deciding to sit, you wouldn't have noticed because until they decide that they're serious, they don't spend a lot of time at the nest.

We have two 2-year-old girls (free ranging), and one of them is on a nest (scheduled to hatch any second!!!). I accidentally found her nest, and if I hadn't found it, I would have thought she disappeared, too!

Once they start sitting on the nest, they'll show up every few days for food and water. I always know they're coming from the nest because they honk a lot, and they have something I call "curly nest tail." When she shows up, you'll see that her tail feathers are all rumpled and curled from sitting.

I always have a lot of treats on hand for when the tired egg sitters show up -- including their favorite, blueberries!
Good luck and try not to worry!

I forgot about the feathers i noticed that also it is like they got wet and dried and never fluffed them.

I guess I just didn't expect that she might make a nest...
thought she would make one maybe next season?
but after your comments maybe, hopefully, she is sitting
somewhere worrying me to death...whew...

I do hope thats what it is...that she has a nest....
guess you know what I will be doing tomorrow...

thanks for sharing...I'm still worried til I see her again
but it does give me a bit of comfort and hope that she
is okay!

positive thoughts, right?!
