I'm Just NOT a Fan !

I have never owned one... yet... Getting one Sunday

I don't care about the egg laying. I like any kind of chicken (except those ones without feathers, the whole science thing) I really want to have a variety in my Banty Tractor. A silkie has an odd look, and I like that. My mom is more of the RIR, Buff Orp, MAYBE Dominique look... I'm one for Polish, NN, ShowGirls, and Silkies...

When times get tough, I want to be able to look out at my yard... and say... that one! That one is dinner! I want something that I have thrown all my money at (in feed, shelter costs) and have it be able to feed my hungry family. A banty.. will feed one starving model.. a standard... will feed a family of four without someone asking disappointedly if there is any more food left.

Yup. I don't mind normal banties though, cause they're still sturdy, and at least they don't eat much. A little decoration is ok, but not to the point they are too goofy to manage or too delicate to survive.

As I say all that.. a guy calls and says he has some silkies and cochins he's wanting to get rid of... guess who said.. I'll take em!!!!

I like Silkies, though I wouldn't get them myself.

I know what you feel about good old fashioned chickens. I have RIRs, Buckeyes, and Ameraecaunas. I'm getting BRs, GLWs, and BOs.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE!

I have one standard bird that I really love.

This is her. she is going to be 5 years old June 9th.

I got her from Mcmurry. And honestly the best bird I have ever had.
She is so nice and gentle. And my sweet love.

I don't use any of my birds for meat or eggs. And Im really not to much into the size of the birds. as long as they like me picking them up then I don't care.

When I look out my window I say "Purdy chickies"

I raise my birds to be prissy and spoiled......

I am ok with silkies but DH loves them and thinks they are the nicest things around and ooohhhhh how they sing to you......

I have 3 different sized silkies. Most are the normal size. I have a gentle giant back silkie rooster thats the size of my standard polish hen and a midget buff silkie rooster thats twice as small as the normal sized silkie hens.

But I am not to pickey and wouldnt mind a Jersey Giant roaming my yard. I guess its how they are raised...and how it makes them likeable.

Although silkies are nice and tame from the start. It takes even longer to make other regular breed birds friendly.

I have bantam polish and they are just as wonderful.
