(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got involved with fowl when my dad gave me a pair of peafowl (leopard winged) back when I was 9 years old. Then I was given more chickens for christmas and birthdays until the neighborhood built up and my fowl collection was shot by irate neighbors.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? None right now. I'm waiting on my hobbit hole to be delivered. Central Transport misplaced it back in early June.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I want welsummers and silver laced
wyandottes

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? My best friend told me about it.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I horse back ride and I am starting combined driving.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a mom to a 24 year old Austistic son. He likes birds. he is thinking about getting spinning pigeons... I live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by 60,000 acres of game land in the southeast. I do have neighbors, besides the bears.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. We are here to help you in any way we can. You have a very good and thorough introduction. I hope you can get your Welsummers and Silver Laced Wyandottes. I have had both breeds before, and they are both hardy, dependable breeds. I especially like the chocolate eggs of the Welsummers. Good luck in getting your flock.

I love your avatar pic. Too cute!

I'm a sucker, I admit it. One of my favorite poets is Gerard Manley Hopkins; particularly his poem "Pied Beauty" (like my avatar, pied dog and pony) Specked eggs and speckled chickens. I know there are more speckly chickens then the silver laced wyandottes, but none are (in my opinion) so pretty. I've heard there is a chicken that lays greenish eggs with brown speckles. I'd like some of those too.

Some of the Easter Eggers lay eggs like that, but you never know when you get EEs what color they will lay until they actually lay, because the EEs are hybrids that lay different colored eggs.
