Hi all. I'm new to hatching. We got 12 purple guinea eggs to hatch. Despite constant problems with the turner and incubator temp 2 actually survived. They hatched yesterday. I wasn't sure they would live as they were stuck in their eggs and I ended up having to assist. Poor little things were so dry I had to soak them in warm water to get the rest of the shell off. One trama down now on to the next they both had bent toes. Been reading on this site about the bent toes and we decided to try taping them. Well mission accomplished! Got both feet on both keets taped. They have amazed me at how quickly they are coming to life. They are actually running around the little brooder we put them in. :) Happy days. I was so sad thinking after all the fighting they did that they would die anyway and they are doing well now. They are getting used to the boots and walking better all the time. My question is how long do I leave them on? I did it today. They hatched yesterday. Any advise would be welcome.
Thank you :) Melissa

Thank you MamaKitty913. One of them has gotten the tape off one foot and while it is much straighter there is still a bent toe so we are gonna retape tonight. I just cleaned the brooder and they are very upset with me. So I am gonna give them some "alone" time. lol

I, too, am new at hatching keets! I've hatched chickens, but new to keets. This is my second hatch, and I have one keet whose legs are really spread apart. Do I need to try to tie them together a little? He seems to have difficulty getting them under him. I have put paper towels in the bottom of their little housing to help, and it did help a little but they are still spread out too far.

Also, one of the keets that hatched this morning seems to have red tissue protruding out his rear. Could that be a prolapse of sorts?? Can anyone out there help me with these questions?

Hi Sunflower7
look up spraddle leg on google. you can use 1/2 of a 3/4" bandaid to fix the legs. I do not know about the red tissue.
Hope this helps
Melissa
