Hello, I am used to showing dairy goats, but I recently got into silkies, and would like to know some ways I could prepare my hens, or how I can get ready for my own showmanship. (If there is showmanship) I am bringing a white silkie, and am kind of stressing over how to transport her, and if the stress will kill her. She has been in the car before, but not for long periods of time. I also don’t know if there is any grooming that needs to be done or, trimming. Any advice will help!

I have been showing since I was very young with my mum! So I’ll just share what I’ve learnt!
Always wash your chickens the day before, make sure to clean their buts as there can get quite a bit of poop there
We do typically remove the little hairs on the face with a removal cream however I haven’t competed with silkies before so I’m unsure if you need to do that!
We always put stuff like either Vaseline/pawpaw cream or whatever you equivalent is on the day before they go in as well!
Also be sure to check your chickens thoroughly before entering them to be sure they don’t have any lice or mites
I hope this helps!
Good luck!

Thank you!
Your welcome! I went to a chicken show recently and talked to my uncle who’s amazing a show chickens! And depending on the weather he washes the chickens around 4-5 days before hand and does a little bit of towel drying to get the larger chunks of water out and you put them in a decently sized cage with something like shredded paper so they don’t get messy and put them in the sun so they can dry naturally and have a natural shape and all the feathers goimg in the right directions ect ect
I haven’t done that technique just yet but he has gotten champion chicken in several shows while using that technique!
But it is always best to use what techniques work best for you and your chickens!
