Im new to this "Chick Life"

For going outside, 4 weeks is old enough if it's not too cold. If it is, wait till they're six weeks old. I'm not sure about the exact temperature though, I think you're aiming for something like 50F at night if you want to put them outside at four weeks.

Allison, thank you so much for the response! I live in Middle Tennessee in the Nashville area and our weather has been crazy lately! Its been cool and today we are suppose to get back up into the upper 70s.. I'm afraid I'm not quite sure how old my chicks are. I'd say the Orpingtons are about 3 weeks because I've had them for 2 weeks and I'd say the Black Australorps are 2 weeks and I've had them 1 week. I'm not sure at what age my co-op get their chicks in. They were small and all fluffy down :) so I should wait a couple weeks before taking them outside right? I will def take a look at your pics and stuff!

Ok so maybe next week ill take the orpingtons out if it'll get back up in the 80s I know they must be itching to get out!

they sound adorable! can you upload some pics to show me them? if i see them i can give better opinions :)
you will LOVE watching them peck around the ground for the first time AND giving them supervised outdoor time here and there will familiarize them with the outdoors for when they do actually integrate fully to outdoor living. wow that sounded like a mouth full! lol i learned that when my babies spent their first night out in the coop/run they FREAKED out when the sun was going down. they didnt know what to do lol i literally had to usher them into the coop and lock it up. they screamed for about 5 - 10 mins than settled down. they will get used to that after a few days lol when i wake up the first thing i do is go outside and let them out of their coop. i also make sure they have fresh water and food throught the whole day. chickens need tons of fresh water at their disposal. im actually in the middle of making another one of my home-made self watering systems for the coop at night. that way they dont make a watery mess and can still get a drink at night while being locked up. its important they drink whenever they want. i will sit down later today and send you a PM with a sort of step by step what i did with my chicks to make life easier on them when integrating to the outdoors. i have learned everything i know from experience and from bothering others on here for help lol this site has been great to me and i would love to return the favor and help another member when i can :)
take care and we will talk later this evening!
