I'm on egg watch! tap, tap, tap... 9/8 - WE GOT ONE!!!

mine are 17 weeks old ...... looks like their butts are getting bigger and their combs a little redder ---- no egg song or squatting yet though ....

They were on starter/grower until the first egg, now they're on layer pellets with free choice oyster shell.

Got 4 eggs today, one of them large size

Do they free range? Could they be laying somewhere other than the nest box?

still waiting on my girls....they are about 19 week old RIR's and they have always been on the noisey side so I am not certin what constitutes the "egg song" . I am begining to wonder if they are holding out on me, they KNOW I am anxiously waiting..........will keep ya posted.

Most of my birds started laying from 20 to 24 weeks.

Mine are 20 weeks old tomorrow and I'm on eggwatch too! They have been visiting the nests and re-arranging the hay and moving the faux egg I put in there- so I know they are close.

Well, still no eggs yet and they are at about 18 weeks now (um, I think). But we have definate egg squats now, DS think it's great how easy they are to catch now

. I got a squat just by opening the door to the coop this morning. I also noticed their pelvices (if that is what it is called on a chicken) are widening. I have mostly just been checking the one that I think is closest to laying and since yesterday I can fit 2 fingers between the bones instead of 1. I am trying sooooo hard to be patient and not check 20 times a day

We got our 1st egg!!! I was making DS an omlet quick before he headed out to cub scouts and I sent him out to check and sure enough, there it was. She laid it in the nest box like a good little girl.

It was the size of a store bought large egg but it had 2 tiny little yokes in it

Wow, first egg AND a double yolker! Poor girl having to lay one that big the first time around.

Have one that is almost 2 years old and laying one egg a day. Then got 24 more ranging from 10-18 weeks in July. Then in the middle of August no more one egg a day!!! Whats up?????
