IM PANICKING does she need help?

On thing everyone should know is that when locking down the incubator for hatching is to ensure all aircells are facing upwards to the top of the incubator. It makes hatching way easier. And if you see a pip to the bottom you turn it upwards so they can have an easier time hatching out. :frow
Best wishes with the chick..:fl
Thanks for the tip on the pip! :D

I am no expert either with just one hatch but she doesn't look ready to be in with the others to me if she's in that state. They can live without food and water for 3 days in the incubator. My chicks peck and explore everything. I don't want to be the messenger of doom but do you have a plan should this not turn out the way you hope. I didn't and it was a steep learning curve. Not sure anything prepared me for the stress and upset I felt over the poorly chickens but sadly not all make it.

Ok should I separate her? They are in a brooder on pine shavings.

I can put her back in the bator?
The pine shavings and the other chicks will irritate her navel. You can put her back into the incubator or have a second container to keep her in. If the container is tall enough to keep her in and her siblings out, you should be fine keeping it (with her inside) in the brooder. Line it with clean paper towels and make sure she isn't too hot or cold.

Good morning!

So, overnight I kept an eye on her. I didn’t separate her bc none of the other chicks paid her any attention. They all snuggled up under the heat lamp and slept.

This morning her belly looks way better, not fully gone like the others, but just a tiny little scab and her fluff mostly covers it. I’ll continue to monitor it.

As for her legs/feet- last night I had been reading on splayed leg and on another post a lady had given me some tips on how to make a brace, which I planned on doing this morning. Imagine my surprise when I went in and she was standing! That being said- her right foot looks clubbed? Her toes don’t spread out or grip. It’s all curled up. Sooooo instead of a leg brace, I’ll be making a toe brace out of a bandaid.

She seems totally healthy other than this weird foot, which I doubt will cause any long term issues; I have a hen that survived a predator attack and still walks with a limp with no problem.

Wish me luck. :fl

I've never had this happen to me but I have had them hatch on the opposite end of the egg. the pointy side not the round side. I think it should be fine. some chicks can take 24 hours to hatch and with the others hatching it will probably make her want to come out as well
