I'm really mad/dissapointed (Rant)

Maybe the duckling had had a slipped tendon. I had a chick like that. She never thrived and her symptoms were identical to the duckling's. I tried everthing to help her, but we lost her in the end. I didn't blame the breeder. It could have been a genetic weakness, a hatching injury, an after hatch injury, poor nutrition or just bad luck. In the case of my chick, I suspect that she was weaker when hatched and another chick trampled her. Whenever you purchase a bird, any problems you notice should be reported to the seller immediately. A month is way too long.

I am sorry this happened to you.

From what I read it sounds as if you just wanted them to"help" you with the duckling?? Not return it am I correct? As a month is too long but they could have been more sympathetic and tried to offer advice as what to do or if they had seen this before??? Or if it was a common problem for them???
$50 is an awful lot for ducks I think. Is there a reason the were so much? Was there suppose to be help included or some type of "warranty" kind of thing like if they don't survive a replacement in XXX time???
I got my ducks at farm and home for about 2.50 each so I am just shocked at what you paid.

Live and learn I suppose. But still does not give her the right to be rude to you for any reason. She was the seller and you the buyer so if they do this allot they should have better customer service.

Again sorry this happened to you it is never easy to loose a pet

Is this your first time with ducks?
There is allot of good info here on this forum and allot of good people to help so keep your chin up and good luck.

I was just trying to see if they had seen this before and what I could do to help it...they had no idea and came back rudely thinking i wanted a refund....and the 50$ was for both ducks...and they are mandarin ducks so they are a bit mnore expensive...anyone that has mandarins..is that you bought yous for??

Hello, so sorry to hear the story.

My best wishes to the sicky lil guy, hope he pulls through for you. *hug*

As for the price, I think it really fluctuates where ever you are pending on breed and locations and pro breeder vs. backyard breeder...

I am not sure if we are all just talking Mandarin Duck prices, but my Indian Runners I just bought were $20.00 per duckling...hehe owww. But they are award winning lines apparently and actually are the nicest standing ones I have seen in ages around my parts...really tall and lanky...lots around here dont have the stereotypical sought after carriage. But I had really only wanted pets not show birds...
I spent weeks trying to find a breeder in the area...to no avail. And then went and found these guys and bought them, so excited I finally found them even if it was $20 duckling LOL and shipped from across the country LOL. A week later a neighbour waaaaaaaay down the street says she breeds them! LOL
And hers are only $5 a duckling! LOL But I looked at hers and they aren't nearly as "correct"...soo...hahaha now I got some fancy pets!

Maybe I will find a local show or something!

Maybe there was a reason she priced them so high- for example supply & demand of the area permits her too or they are a rarer breed maybe to the region altogether or else she has top lines (but from your posts i'd think not so much). Anyways...I have also noticed prices for my Indian Runners are cheap in US and UK for some reason, but higher in Canada. Not sure if thats just my luck so far, or normal. And any cheap ones in Canada are often someone's backyard crosses or else unintended ducklings from pets. There are a few big Canadian hatcherys that are cheaper but I heard of some disappointed customers so I didn't want to go with either of them. **Too bad for me I didnt find some backyard babies first for $5, now I have "award winning breeding" and an empty wallet!** hahaha
Sigh!!!

$50 for two Mandarins is not expensive at all. Not all ducks cost a few bucks.

Quoting from one of your posts OP, "I called them hoping they would let me come over and pick up another...i spent $50 on those ducklings!"

That right there tells me you were asking for something. I know it is frustrating. I know it is sad and unfair, but I doubt it is the seller's fault. A month for ducklings is a long time. In my experience, when something happens to ducklings, 99.999999% of the time it is something diet related.

If you had the ducklings for a month, it is highly likely that it is something YOU did. I know that is hard to hear, but it is the reality of keeping animals. The sooner you realize this, the better. ALL of us have made mistakes and even under the best of circumstances, we sometimes lose animals.

You also stated that the seller suggested a few things that might have happened and you in your post discounted their opinion and said that it was impossible based on how they were set up. That makes me seriously question how exactly you approached the seller. Maybe you are somewhat to blame for how they reacted? Just a thought.

I got a mandarin at the feed store for 4.50. I'm thinking he's not show quality. He was mixed in with many kinds, probably brought in by a local.
