I'm setting eggs tonight 2/2/12, any hatching buddies out there wanna join me?

I would love to have some hatching buddies my second time through with the incubator. Reading all the posts really helped me and my chicks the first time through... I have four more chicks because of the collective wisdom on this site. First time stats: 31 into lock down, 22 fluffy butts out. 4 eggs never pipped, 5 did and I'm regretful that I didn't try to help them out sooner.

Right now I have 10 turkey eggs going and will add about 34 or so chicken eggs tomorrow. They should hatch together on the 26th. I'm going to candle the turkey eggs on Sunday so we'll see how they are doing.

Janie :)

I love hatching turkeys. They are so cute even just a few days old they start strutting.
Seeing something that small act like their parents alway brings a smile.
I can't wait till my turkey hens start to lay.
That goes for the calls too. I'm a sucker for baby calls and turkeys.
Everyone keeps posting ams and I keep wishing all my ams would start to lay.
I have hit or miss two laying now. Got my marans eggs in ;)
the last tray will be my longest waiting pain.
Hope everyone has a great hatch

I set eggs on 2/1/12 from my own flock. I'm going to have a mix as I have 2 French Blue Copper Marans, 1 French Black Copper Marans, 1 black Ameracauna and 1 Splash Orington (although due to a lack of a wing, I suspect he hasn't fathered anything). My girls are a blue Ameracauna, 2 Wheaten Marans and a white mutt (as far as I know). I'm hoping for more girls for more eggs! I did stick in 5 more a couple days later just to try a stagger hatch. We'll see what I get.

Good luck!

Ooh can I join too I am setting up my new Hovabator it's been running steady for about 3 days and I am putting in 38 Light Brahma, Brahma Cochin cross and possibly Brahma, Delaware cross eggs. 38 total but not sure exactly which of the 4 girls laid which eggs. They will be going in in just a few minutes. That puts my hatch day on the 25th of February which is school vacation for us up here hehe. I will be candling on the 11th (day 7) and again on the 19th (day 15). Lockdown will be on the 22nd.

This past week has been really wet from the rain. The air is so moist that I do not need to add any water in the bator for humidity.

Blueberry's 3 eggs should hopefully hatch anytime now.
Rosie is due in mid February for her 4 eggs. ----> Funny story that happened yesterday. Our property is flooded from all the rain and the high spots look like little islands. The layer flock was out freeranging and enjoying the sun that decided to come out in the afternoon. Low n behold the hawks were also out making their calls trying to scare up lunch.

The chooks spotted one hawk overhead and made a mad dash for cover. I heard an aweful screech that sound like a hen was caught........however, it was poor Rosie who decided to fly over the water to the porch. She made it halfway and landed in the cold water and let out a screech like no other and then froze in confusion. I had to rescue her and carry her to dry land. She shook off and went straight back to her nest. Poor thing.....I tried not to giggle to much at her but it was funny.

Soaring Chicks, what breed of turkey are you raising? We have Midget Whites and Narragansetts... can't wait to see what they look like when they hatch. We had planned on separating the two breeds to keep the lines pure, but never got around to it. I actually had 11 eggs in the bator, but now have 10 since one was a clear this morning. Added the chicken eggs and had 3 too many. So I put them on top of the other eggs that are on the turner.

9 are Americauna eggs and I'm not sure if they will end up being fertile. Last time I put in 2 green eggs and both were clear, so I don't know if the rooster has been fast enough to catch them this time around. Can't wait until next weekend to candle them to see how many will start development.

BooBear, you were sweet to not giggle too much at your outraged hen. I would have been laughing my butt off at her. Too funny!!! Wish there was a video of the whole thing.

LilyD...I just love the new look Hovabator 1588...mine is the last model and I love it...so easy to use....

I agree even the humidity seems super stable not sure what they did with this model but boy is it making incubating easier and harder at the same time lol. Easier because I don't have to worry as much but harder because there is far less to do than with my other incubator. Now I just walk by it stare at the temp and humidity and then talk to the eggs for a minute lol.
