I'm So Excited! Received my first Russian Orloff Eggs today!

OH NO!

ok, deep breath! how is humidity holding for you? if it's not running low and if there are no pips you'd prob be ok to take one out and quickly candle for reassurance!? if you remember which is which, pick one you are pretty sure is good too!

just a thought.

They may end up taking a extra day to hatch too. i know they are a bit less sensitive to temp changes as they are closer to hatch. No expert here but I'd guess they were ok but may be a little late to hatch. you can always start a new thread on the incubation boards to ask some other opinions too, I'm sure someone there has had this happen too!

Jen

P.S. IF something happens and they don't hatch, we'll getcha some more!

Thanks Jen. I don't remember what you would call what I use for a thermometer, but it reads both temp & humidity. I have two in there and they are both reading the temp at 99.5 F, but one is reading the humidity at 75% and the other at 69%.

So I went to bed last night really sad that I did not even have any pips and my bator was super quiet.
sad.png
Last night was day 20 and I usually get my first pips on the night of day 20. Then I wake up this morning to find the humidity at 60%.

I added some water thinking to myself, "What's the point. Most likely none of these will hatch.", and as I'm standing over the bator I hear a peep!

I'm excited, but at the same time not too excited since the humidity was so low the babies could still have problems hatching. I thought for sure nothing would happen. I grabbed my flashlight to get a better look and see three eggs pipped and one more than the others.

My dh dragged me away kicking and screaming as we had some errands to run and I'm just getting home. Of course the first thing I did was race up the stairs to my room anxious to see if there was any more action in there (I know, I know.... I can be so childish sometimes. dh just laughs at how silly I get with my animals. lol). Sure enough I have one chick completely out and chirping away and it's perfect. Woohoo!!!

There are also 2 or 3 (can't really tell) that are pipped so I am sure I should have a couple more. At least I hope. Maybe I'll get lucky and even hatch out more than that.

I"m SOOOOO happy the hatch is looking good. aren't they just the sweetest little things? this is prob one of my fav hatching photos of all, from a recent orloff hatch. I love how the little feet are just sitting there ihalf out of the shell. lol

Oh and after this hatch, I want to pick your brain about mini nubian goats!

reeeeally wanting some, trying to convince DH.

That is such a cute pic Jen!

Well so far I have two hatched, one who is almost done zipping (actually as I watch I see him trying to lift it's head out of egg), and two more with pips.

What I mentioned before about always putting in all my eggs until I get more experience to know if one is not going to hatch (for whatever reason), one of the ones I thought would not hatch is the one who is almost completely out now.

YAY! glad you kept them in! I know I usually put everything in myself, I had one last fall that I was SURE was not good so I just left it in the turner with the others I thought to not be good, well, when I went to toss all those eggs about 2 days after hatch ended, I found one that had pipped, tried to zip but had too low humidity and died!

felt sooo bad, i don't want to do it again so I usually put the ones I'm not sure of in there still but in a different line or carton, eor even write a big ? on them so I know not to totally freak if they don't hatch.

when you get a chance upload some pics!

So far we have 5 of 7 hatched.

No, so far we only have 5. Today is day 21 so I will give them a couple more days, but if they don't hatch (which I really hope they do) I am happy with the 5 I have. I think it was a great hatch!!! Thanks so much Jen.
