I'm so old I Remember when:

Now a day, thieves are stealing money from people that just answer their phone, open their email.

Open a bank account is done online, no need to walk into the bank.
My friend just recently got all her money stolen from a phone call she picked up. The caller told her he from the internet provider ..etc.. and she gave out her details. Long story short all her money stolen. Obviously she contacted various people, departments, banks..etc... to get her money back. They told her it gone and they can not do anything about it. She is in great distress.

So there, all these technologies are also causing a great deal of suffering.
When you answer a phone call from an unknown number, do not use the word "yes" or "no." Scammers use the verbal recorded statement as an answer to a question, allowing them to access accounts and so on. Because it is actually your voice saying "yes" when the bank asks if they have your permission to make changes.

I am in physical aching pain so I would like to say, I am so old I remember I was young once, I once wore mountain boots, did hours of bush walking. Grew load of stuff in my garden, baked many muffin, listened to music all the time, eat whatever I like, sew my couch new cover, swam 25 laps in the swimming pool several time a weeks...etc..
Now, I walk slowly mindful of my steps, avoid certain food, wear special comfy shoes. I don't even do long walk around my area, growing just a few things in my garden, and finding it is harder to manage my chickens.
I hate being old.

The caller said he from the internet provider and asked her to confirm her details, like name, day of birth, .e.tc...
What scamer did was open another bank account in a different bank in her name and moved her money from her accounts into this new identify thief account. She is still fighting with the 2 banks, and the usual reporting with various government authority bodies.

One of my phones actually has iris recognition. It hurt my eyes when I tried it. Most new phones don't have enough space to provide that hardware in the bezel, so they all just use fingerprints.
All these need constant update, and not just that phone up date, they are moving to 4G, 5G..etc.. and must get new phone.e.tc. Keeping up with this fast moving world is not only time consuming, but also expensive.

Not keeping up with it is detrimental, isolated from society, and will not be able to survive. Like my mother can not make an insurance claim in person, must do it online.

A few years back her house was damaged by flood, the government then gave out $1000.00 for everyone that impacted by the flood, but it had to be applied online for this.

Terrible! We must move with the times and when we are not savvy, then bad things happen.

4G has been around for a decade at this point, so the shutting off of 3G makes sense. I assume it'll be the same for 5G. My goal is to keep this phone as long as possible.

Be wary of AI impersonating someone you know on the telephone.
My favorite was when I got a call from a young man with a THICK New York accent, shakily saying "Grandma? I'm in trouble."

I burst out laughing and he hung up. If I'd had my wits about me I could have strung him along for a while.

I have no children, no grand children, and this is a standard scam. They should have picked someone with a less obvious accent, though.

I usually answer an unknown call with WHAT? Especially those coming from outside of the area(like from another state), those get extra special vigor from me.
