"Here's a trick. Copy the ¢ symbol. Go to your keyboard settings, then text shortcut, then text shortcut, then add "cent." For the expanded phrase, paste the ¢ symbol. Now, when you type "cent," it'll automatically change to ¢ unless you press the checkmark to cancel autocorrect.
