I'm so old I Remember when:

I am not a fan of snakes either, when I was a kid, they were slithering about in our garden and orchard, I remember trying to avoid stepping on 2 and instead, stepping on a third snake, it was summertime, and it kind of twisted left and right about my bare leg, I ran screaming ( really) out of the orchard and never entered it again ( the snake was ok, they are very tough creatures)

We buy big bags of organic blueberries at Costco. We add them to the dog's food and the chickens love frozen blueberries on hot days.

I can never resist baking with blueberries. We just finished up a blueberry bread I made the day before yesterday. It was wonderful with tea or coffee.
I would love to be in your shoes, we have wild blueberries, but they are TINY 😟 there is also the danger of eating the eggs of a fox tape worm, which can kill you, over the course of years ( nasty things, develop in the liver, travel to your brain and then it’s goodbye) the last years have been to dry, so the berries shrivel before they are edible, the store bought ones come from places as far away as Chile, so not a guilt free snack , I tried growing some, but they don’t like the soil 🤷🏻‍♀️ or the hot sun, whatever

Ever
Stephen King "ruined" a lot of things in the most glorious way. 💜
since the movie “pet cemetery ” I haven’t been wild about gray cats either, and don’t get me started on clowns, NOT a fan, either, back then, they wouldn’t let me in, cos they thought I was too young ( it was only for 18 years and up) I was older than 18, and after showing them my id, I wax allowed in, afterwards, I regretted they let me in 🤪

Thanks. I got so many compliments bc of you. They made me continuously happy. :wee

I used bird netting in the past and songbirds got caught in it.

Now I just harvest the blueberries before I let the chickens out to free range.

On top of the run I use stronger netting : the ones they sell to cage predator birds and cat netting for balconies.
Its more expensive but a 100 times better. Still okay after 10 years. Just do not use it near the ground if you have rats. Rats bite through netting for predator birds 🦅 . The cat netting I have is enforced with a thin metal thread 🧵. But I didnt dare to use it from 50 cm height like I did with the 🦅 netting.
I also used regular netting, I didn’t even know it killed birds until fall, when I took it down, and found 2 mummified birds in them 😱 ever since then, I took down all the netting and used larger nets

What! My gosh that sounds like a House M.D. episode.

Edit: IT WAS. 😲 Season 2, Episode 7, "Hunting." The disease is called echinococcosis.

Crazy! Sometimes I'm amazed so many of us live as long as we do.

I'm so old I remember when hard drives were small and every file you stored came at a cost. A lady I was working with ask me to take a look at her son's computer. The son had deleted some much needed files for the operating system to make room for more x rated files. Mom was not happy. The son was less happy when I formatted his hard drive and reinstalled the operating system.

Ever since the movie “pet cemetery ”......
One of my favorite celebrity related stories is Stephen invited the Ramones to lunch where he asked them to come up with a theme song for the movie that was being made of his book. He gave them the overview and the ins and outs of the story while they ate. Tommy had the song finished on his napkin before the waitress brought the check. Love the movie, love the song - it's a win-win combination for me.

I don't get why this post is getting sad responses. I love Stephen King (way more than snakes for sure). I put the ruined in quotes because I think he's marvelous.
I remember reading the short story Cold Roast Beef that he wrote as a student and knew he would be brilliant. I'm so glad he has done well for himself and enjoy whenever one of his works is turned into an instant cinematic cult classic as well.
Agreed, Stephen King is an amazing author, but Pennywise killed the joy of clowns and replaced it with abject terror. For those of us who grew up loving circus clowns; along with Emmett Kelly, Red Skelton and many other nameless funny faces; King ushered in a loss from which many of us will not likely recover.
And another, have you seen Ronald McDonald around in a decade or so? Ever wonder why? McDonald's caters to kids and teens, who grew up on today's terrifying clown phobia. They HAD to rebrand to stay alive.
