When you got on an airplane, you walked out on the tarmac.
And climbed the steep steps stairs to get on and off the plane
At least it was to me as a kid

We spent a good chunk of that trip visiting people, so we didn't go a lot of places.
I remember the community laundry with ringer washing machines and getting my nightly bath in the galvanized was tubs.
I'm glad you like them. These photos are simply wonderful. They've made me happy, thank you so much for posting them.
There is no way you could have known this but I was baptized at St. Peter and Paul's in Wilmington. What a crazy coincidence. I spent the first years of my life in one of those English Tudor homes they built in the 1930s by the Banning Museum. I heard endless tales of the many accomplishments of General Phineas Banning, "Father of the Port of Los Angeles."
Very bad photo. It used to be much bigger from what I remember.I'm glad you like them.
One of my brothers was baptized there too. Last time we went I remember they changed the baptismal fountain. We went there a few times throughout the years.
We went to the Banning Museum once. It was close to the place we took our cars to get fixed, and so we stopped in after dropping one off (I think. We had lots of car issues at the time).
I also remember the horrible traffic going from there to LA county. Whenever we had to pick up a car or drop one off I went with Dad so he could use the carpool lane.
