Each time I mention the word "dead" about my passed away chickens, I feel pain in my stomach, and some of those chickens had gone a few years now. Personally, whatever word I use, I know exactly what/who/how/why I am talking about, base on that, I believe the word "unalived" still give the same feeling. We all know what we mean while no one else know our exact feeling.

I am amazed at myself that how much I remember about each individual of my feather kids that gone. Chickens really are a heart breaker

I share your sentiment. Ironically, earlier today, I was doing the chicken "inventory" in my head as to each and every one in sequential order of having them and when and how they "left" our world. It does causes a twang of pain. All our former dogs create the same emotion to a greater degree even.
I would rather have loved and loss than to never have the opportunity to love at all.
