I had better luck than that.Don't forget the infamous 8 track, lucky to get 3 plays of the tape before the player ate it.
My Pawpaw had a huge but portable radio that included some short wave bands.
I remember in my fire department days scanners could go down to the low 30s in frequency. Same bands home cordless phones used. With a good outside antenna on a base station which I had we could hear neighbors calls a couple streets down. Had one in my truck and could catch calls riding aroundMy Pawpaw had a huge but portable radio that included some short wave bands.
We would sit up at night listening in on "ship to shore" telephone calls. Mostly guys out on oil rigs in the Gulf calling home. The operator also listened and would scold people who used foul language or got too intimate (they were on an open radio channel.)
One night I was able to pick up Radio Havana. It was interesting to hear the news from the 'enemy's' point of view.
This picture gave me serious flashbacks
