I'm so old I Remember when:

Yes they did lots of it! Still see t-shirts once in a while.
I currently have two colorful tie dye shirts, one from Wild Horse winery and the other from our local Pierson's Building Supply. Wear them often, too, they go with my teal & purple hair! (When your hair goes gray, might as well have fun...)

On Dobie Gillis? He was before hippies, I think he was a Beatnik.
Absolutely, he was supposed to be a beatnik! If I remember right, the actor later was Gilligan on "Gilligan's Island"...is that right? Bob Denver? Or am I confusing matters...

Laura Ingalls Wilder in her "Little House" series described how her Pa traded their horse team for oxen to complete their wagon journey west when she was a pioneer child -- they were slow but tougher on those rough trails without lush grazing. (She was not a fan, she loved the horses.) In "Farmer Boy" she describes how her future husband raised his first team of oxen from calves in rural New York, even carving the calf-sized wooden yoke for them to train in.

All that was a revelation to a suburban horse-crazy kid in the early 60s!
I remember reading those novels also 😊

I remember my folks and a few friends of theirs took me "camping" that day. I learned years later it was "to wait and see the collapse ".
I worked at IBM and we sat in the Ops room and watched TV of Australia’s New Years and we got live updates for the computer systems from IBM over there - all okey-dokay, no issues - many people felt let down it wasn’t the apocalypse 😁

I was a new nurse at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and we were just getting new computers in the ICU. Someone asked what we were to do if the computers crashed because of Y2K. I said, "probably the same thing we do every other time they crash."
