My BIL used to be the Maytag Repair Man. Now he works for someone else. He always stops by when he is in the neighborhood. It's always nice to see him.Was it the Maytag Repair Man?
We had the lake front, with a long street along the lake. You could fish, BBQ, people showed off their cars, brought out kegs of beer, (and other intoxicates), large, loud speakers, we cut up and danced in the streets until dawn.Yes, I posted that here somewhere. We did it. It was a blast. This was a small town back then. Not considered a small town now. We reached the over 40,000 mark.![]()
May I ask what part of town you were cruising? Schwegmanns was all over the city. I did my grocery shopping there, as did my mother and Grandma. The one on Chef Hwy had a bar where you could get a hot dog and a beer to consume while you shopped.I remember cruising the mall. A few of us getting dropped off at the mall for about 6:30 and getting picked up at 9 when they closed on Friday and Saturday night before we had licenses. After getting driver's licenses we graduated to the talked about cruising a stretch of street in the middle of a neighboring city. One end we turned around in a burger King parking lot and the other end a schwegmanns grocery store parking lot. Stopping at a couple parking lots on each side to chill and let the bass flow. Back then the cops couldn't care less. Try hanging out in a parking lot now at 10 at night you're guaranteed to get run off by the cops.
Nor was finding them hanging out of the cat's behind. They were certainly beautiful but finding them in the vacuum bag or static clinging to your pantleg months later was never much fun.
