I'm so old I Remember when:

I remember hearing a classmate repeat the rumor that McDonald's was using earthworms in the burger to save money back in the early 60's....

Those of us that fished knew it couldn't be true because pound for pound beef cost as lot less than fish bait.
I remember when people were cautious to believe strange news. And long back to that.

So now we have GMO synthetic meat? one company ferments genetically-engineered yeast to create heme, a protein that's crucial to duplicating the juiciness, flavor, and color of real meat.

I remember when meat was called meat and vegetables were called vegetables.
NO.
This conclusion is false.
The veggie ‘want-to-taste-like-meat’ burgers are not made with GMO veggies. The soy they use to make them is not from Brazil where most of the GMO soy for animal feed comes from. The soy for the veggie-burger comes mostly from the US and Europe. In Europe it is not allowed to use GMO food for humans.

Fermenting or fabricating burgers from veggies has nothing to do with GMO. A veggie burger is the meat substitute for the classic hamburger. The minced meat has been replaced by beans, nuts, tofu or mushrooms, for example. But it is ultra processed UPF). They add herbs and often sugars and too much salt to make it tasty.

In my country they produce not only veggie burgers, but a lot more vegan alternatives for meat.
The closest supermarket by has about 50 different vegan/vegetarian meat replacements in the shop and 122 vegan meat (beef, pork, chicken, fish and non imitation ) replacements online . All easy to prepare/bake off.
