Put an empty aluminum soda can on top of it with a handful of beans in it, taped shut. It will take several repetitions* but the cat will learn, eventually.

*A dog would learn after one experience but cats ... like to gamble. Or are optimists. Or something.

I had a cat with this particular addiction.
