I'm so old I Remember when:

In my high school, I thought it was ... strange ... that the "wild kids" who smoked, drank, and were getting into drugs did the science reports on the effects of smoking and drugs.

Were they fascinated by what they were doing to their bodies? Or so sure it would only "happen to someone else?"
I guess, in my opinion, if you're going to drink and do drugs it is good to know how they're going to affect your mind and body. That way you know what to expect and what warning signs to look out for. It's safer than going in blind!

We had to watch a film like that in driver's ed. It was called "Red Asphalt." It grossed kids out but I doubt it had the desired effect of making them more careful drivers. You just don't have the capacity at that age.
It's crazy to me that society decided the best way to teach kids to be careful on the road was to traumatize them with gorey images. There's only 2 ways I can see that realistically going: too scared to learn to drive, or desensitized to the danger.

Like know beforehand?
Think most would go the route of learning from/while doing.

Well, if you have to do a school project and you have the choice to do it on drinking, smoking, and drugs, and you're interested in that stuff, why not? Learn while doing, exactly. It may surprise some, but a lot of people who do drugs actually do like to learn about what they do to the body, both to enhance the experience, and to be safe. Learning about it becomes a sort of interest/hobby as much as actually doing the stuff does.

If only everyone who wanted to experiment with drinking and drugs had the wherewithal (or ability/opportunity in some cases) to research it. It makes everything safer, to be informed.

I drove drunk ONCE. I thought I was fine but after my friends started shouting at me for having blown right through a red light that I didn't even notice I never did again. Scared the 💩 out of me!

Ya I'm surprised. I've never heard of anyone that did either learning about it first or to any extent while doing it.
When I learned about different drugs it didn't take much to figure out they weren't worth doing.
It all seems weird to me.

Different strokes for different folks! That's part of the reason I love this world. Everybody is different and that makes things so much more interesting! We can learn a lot from one anothers' differences 😊

I'm so old I remember when 3 bedroom cement block houses were being built for 10-12,000 dollars. The one I distinctly remember was a nice ranch house that had red brick trim and was built in the early 60's or late 50's in South Central Florida.
