I'm so old I Remember when:

Well people in the future we'll say we remembered when there was encryption because there wasn't AI and quantum computing around to download all our data and decrypt it.

Enjoy the last bit of privacy now.
I don't think the quantum thing is going to be working that well for a while.

I have my backups all self-hosted. I need to make a solution so I can have the backup in alternate location, and that's probably going to have to be done manually.

Those licorice pipes sound familiar but I just can’t picture them.

The last job I had that needed off site storage used a vault inside a famous mountain in TN. No natural disaster was going to lose records there. It would take an all out nuclear war and a direct hit on the mountain and then the records wouldn't be needed anyway.

I remember back in the 90's setting up a computer network for a small business owner. I had a computer setup to backup daily and the secretary took a Quick Books backup/restore disk home with her on Fridays. One Monday morning on her way to work she looked up to see black smoke rising above the town where her office was. She grabbed her purse in a panic to make sure she had remembered to take the disk home. She had. Her office was gone. Burned to the ground. No data lost. That was the only business that didn't lose their data.

I don't like where the world is heading ... retinas?
At my last job they installed a biometric time clock. When they were setting it up you gave them two fingerprints - I suppose in case your primary finger got a boo-boo - as well as using a self-selected pin #. After 6 or 8 weeks of frustratingly never getting it to work quite right and creating daily headaches for HR, they disabled it and we went back to swiping our company ID cards.

I am in physical aching pain so I would like to say, I am so old I remember I was young once, I once wore mountain boots, did hours of bush walking. Grew load of stuff in my garden, baked many muffin, listened to music all the time, eat whatever I like, sew my couch new cover, swam 25 laps in the swimming pool several time a weeks...etc..
Now, I walk slowly mindful of my steps, avoid certain food, wear special comfy shoes. I don't even do long walk around my area, growing just a few things in my garden, and finding it is harder to manage my chickens.
I hate being old.
:hugs One of the few good things about getting older is it beats the alternative.

It was morning in America when we were attacked. Perhaps you just saw the morning news replay?

Naturally.
I came to work early as my job required. Woke up, rushed to the bus stop, got into work, lodged in the system and just work. I was working in the accounting dept, my work was the started of the process and all must be done by 11am. I switched on a different screen to not have my work showing while I gather docs. I saw people were running, smoke images on my monitor ..I thought must be a new action movie. There was no sound from my computer so I did not know what was reporting. Until I saw people at work were grouping together, I knew something was not right, when I went to join the group then I learned of the shocking event, still I can not believe it. It took many days to sink in.
