I mispronounce some of these foods on purpose as well. It amuses me when people try to correct me and I say, "that's what I said," and repeat my (mis)pronunciation.

I get this totally. I grew up in beautiful green upstate NY with all sorts of rivers and lakes and hills and valleys and rain and snow and sunshine, each in their turn. Where I live now is brown and flat and we reach triple digits temps every summer. A fine layer of dust settles on everything in the house from the heat pump pulling it in. My lungs and eyes are so SO happy when we get a rain. My whole being right down to my soul gets invigorated like I just had big dose of B12.
Why do you need grass then? Maybe look into xeriscaping.
When we first moved to this state I bought us a small house on 5 acres. The kids were elementary school age and once a month we'd drive 20 miles into town to pay the utilities and do a bit of shopping and other errands. The grocery was out last stop before heading home. There were times when we'd spent so long in town, I allowed the kids to each pick themselves a TV dinner as I knew by the time we got to the house and unloaded everything then did the evening chores there wouldn't be time to prepare a decent meal. We called those occasions "junk food night". The kids actually sorta liked it because they each got to pick out their own favourite.
