I'm so old I Remember when:

Making leather bracelets was popular when I was a kid. We tooled them and colored them.

Sears had a whole display of oil lamps. I loved them so much, but my parents never bought one. We didn't have much disposable income.

I also remember that Sears had a dishwasher with a clear door so you could see how the water cleaned. I always wanted to stop by and see that, too. Not a lot of people had dishwashers in those days.
Speaking of dishwashers we just replaced one not too terribly long ago…..right before we shifted back to washing dishes by hand……can’t explain it, it just happened.

I bought the parcel that adjoins me on the south for the express purpose of not having neighbors there. It has no right of way which doesn't matter to me because it adjoins me.
I may be a bad person but I sometimes think about if one of these tornados that seem to keep barreling through my town would just take out one of the houses next door, I could expand my little orchard and garden and my pups would have more room to roam.

Same here! That's why we bought the old farmhouse.

And save-y folks! :)

Yup, same here.

We bought our house with 8 acres. One of the neighbors offered us "the field" when they decided to sell, because they knew we wouldn't build on it. We wanted to keep it the way is is. They gave us a bit of a deal, I think. We bought "the old farmhouse" when it went into foreclosure for the same reason: we didn't want someone to put 3 houses out there.

It may sound a bit NIMBY, but land is getting bought up and "developed" all around here. There are more ways to use land than to try to wring every last dollar out of it.
The house we had before this one came with 5 acres. When one of the national producers built a huge chicken facility about a mile away, the people next door sold their tract. They started putting up a huge apartment complex. I didn't want to sell to them but I did want to move away from that. I found a young couple who - at the time at least - wanted the acreage for their family to grow on .

I loved this. I would probably enjoy it today, too. 😊
