Nobody said good morning in this house when I moved here 15 years ago. I was floored. Nor yes please or no thank you. I have initiated the Good Morning, but the other two are still not happening. Might never, I guess. I do, though!said good morning

I tend to not say good morning. I say good night though.Nobody said good morning in this house when I moved here 15 years ago. I was floored. Nor yes please or no thank you. I have initiated the Good Morning, but the other two are still not happening. Might never, I guess. I do, though!
Well said!I'm so old that I remember when people held doors open for one another, said please and thank you, said good morning to strangers, helped their significant others with their coats, pulled out chairs to seat their wives.
Once after pulling the chair for the Princess at Cracker Barrel, a man somewhat belligerently said, " What are you doing? Trying to make the rest of us look bad?" I replied, "I find that many don't need any help with that." Dining room erupted in laughter, and he slunk back to his table.
Good for you.I make every child that comes through my lunch line say please or thank you if I offer them something. Example:we have to offer the kids condiments, like ketchup or mayo. If I say to the kid, "Would you like ketchup?" they have to respond "yes please" or "no thank you" before I let them leave. I might be the mean ole lunch lady but they will have manners when dealing with others
That sounds rude.... the other will hold but let the door fall as the other is reaching.
I hold the door open , slightly bow as I motion them through with my free hand. That sounds rude.
Where I grew up as well as where I live now people will hold the door and step back while doing so to let the other person through first. Greetings are usually exchanged - "c'mon through" "let me get that" "how are you today" "after you" "have a great day" "thank you" ... Even most youngsters are taught manners around here.
A friendly gesture of acknowledgement is an acceptable substitution for words.I hold the door open , slightly bow as I motion them through with my free hand.

Way to go young man. The future is not totally lost.I tend to not say good morning. I say good night though.
I do also say thank you.

Like I said, I think it's regional. Most people here hold it open backwards and let the other grab it to continue. That sounds rude.
