I'm also old enough to remember riding in the bed of pickups being normal and no seatbelt laws. You could shove as many kids as you wanted in the back seat of a car or ride with them on your lap.
And back to smoking...
Parents could smoke in those cars full of kids with the windows up and no one said a thing about it.

I remember my brother and I were trapped in a back seat with 2 chimneys puffing away when it was cold and windows that went down half way when it was hot
( & in a previous post watching out for cigarette butts coming back in the car through the back window )

My parents never smoked, and I remember my little brother (I think he may have been 4 or 5) leaning out the car window and yelling to the man in the car next to us, "Mister! Your lollipop's on fire!"

I'm so old I remember the best way to find out who was stealing your lunch from the company fridge was to buy one pack of Chiclets and one pack of Feniment and switch them out. I didn't lose anymore lunches after that. Someone lost an afternoons pay and it was not me.

Remember all the variety shows? Carol Burnett of course, but Sonny qnd Cher, Laugh In, Hee Haw, Benny Hill. Man we used to laugh and sing and have so much fun.

I remember not knowing what divorce was and heart broken over Sonny and Cher.

Buying Archie comics two for a quarter at the local drug store.

I remember seat belts with heavy metal buckles. They were HOT to the touch in summer.

& I remember the dark vinyl seats when you sat down blistered any skin touching

Had to keep blankets and beach towels in the car coving the seats

& let’s not forget those early car seats they had to be covered with blankets

The leather seats in my SAAB still burn and they are a light tan. I hate them

Our last actual drug store closed around 10 years ago. Now it's all pharmacies.

We have 2 drug stores left in mobile that I know of and all the rest are pharmacies
