I remember my dad buying an old manual typewriter for me when I was in college because for some reason

40 words per minute was impossible, the way those keys tangled. Using a keyboard I do at least 60 wpm. That thing, it was more like 10.

Funny story. When typewriters were first introduced the letters were in alphabetical order. But as speeds increased typing speeds increased also, resulting in more jams. Rather than redesigning the system they put all the letters on random keys so the typists had to hunt for the letters, thus reducing their typing speed.

I've heard the vowels were moved apart from each other so that there would be less jams.

The QWERTY layout gives my hand a hard time. I switched to Colemak on my desktop and it's much better for my hands. Despite switching layouts, I still make the same typing mistakes every single time.

IIRC the arrangement of the letters on a typewriter (and now keyboards) was settled on due to the frequency of use of the letters. The most used were placed nearest to the strongest fingers while letters like the Q, the Z, and the X were intentionally placed to be used by moving the pinky of the left hand. It was not random scattering.

I remember that projector kind of like machine that was on a rolling cart
that the teacher would write on transparent film and it rolled like in a tube and it would project what she wrote on the wall or black board or a screen

At the photolab where I worked, we had a customer who wanted 100 copies of a presentation (20?30? slides long) made on 8x10 Ektachrome film, then mounted in the holders. We are talking some SERIOUS bucks in film, processing, and labor.

The show was computer generated art back when that was very, very new. It was to sell a floor/carpet cleaner that had two heads to clean the carpet better. One head expelled water, the other head sucked it all back up with the dirt.

The head that expelled water was the Hydrophobic head (water hating, with little angry faced character). The one that sucked water up with the dirt was the Hydrophilic head (water loving, with a little happy faced character).

The reason I remember all this is they called the water loving head Hydrophallic. I really had to convince the customer service person to call the customer and tell them they had a typo.

I remember when I could get down on the floor to perform some task like fixing a pipe or replace some tile or base board. Now IF, and that's a big if, before I get up I have to map out grab on tos and step ups. Under a truck, shimmy, slide and look for something to aid me back to standing. Recently was going to replace the running boards on the truck, I wimped, DW gave me an out, "CALL THE GUY". With very little protest I did.

I place the rise assist BEFORE I get down. Saves a lot of trouble later.

A few months ago I finally got around to creating my garage bench, exactly at the height of my truck bed so I can just back in and slide stuff off onto the bench--or in the case of chicken feed, the storage is at the other end of the bench. Slide and dump.
