I was NOT allowed to wear these. My mom called them "hooker shoes." Her friend was an ER doc and said the number of broken ankles in the ER always skyrocketed when wedges were popular, so I was also not allowed to wear them because I'd end up breaking an ankle. She was probably right about that, I have terrible ankles!

In my high school driver's ed class, you got a "point" if you failed to come to a complete stop, or didn't use your turn signal, or remind passengers to buckle up. It was like points on your license, ie, not good.

However, if you saw a yellow Volkswagon of any style, you called out "Yellow Volkswagon!" If you were the first to call it, you got a point taken off.

Someone had a yellow VW bus in the tiny town where the high school was. One Saturday, the owner was out driving around, and I think a record seven "Yellow Volkswagons" got called that day.

Fun times, fun times.
