I'm so old I Remember when:

I've ridden horses when I was young. There was a farm that was actually a "summer camp", that had horses.

One cantankerous horse named "Lady Blue" never liked it when the kids came back to camp. Unfortunately for me that day, I was riding her. She was being uncooperative, and didn't like me on her.

The instructors tried to corral her, but that didn't go as planned. Next thing I know... I'm 10 feet in the air. I went one way, and the horse went the other.
I almost landed on my tailbone.

Getting thrown is no fun. I've done that a few times but didn't end up with any serious injuries. I was always glad I was wearing a helmet.

One time I was grooming my horse and getting ready for a lesson while my riding instructor was working with another horse in the corral. Suddenly the very nice little gelding she was riding turned into a wild bronco, bucking and twisting. She stayed on as long as she could then suddenly she went flying high through the air. Turned out the horse had been stung by a wasp. He really was a good horse and would normally have never behaved that way.

I grabbed my cell phone and ran over to her. She was on her hands and knees by then and was trying to catch her breath. I asked if she needed me to call 911 but she said no. She had landed on her hip and had a horrible large bruise but no broken bones. She was lucky - and young, in her thirties. This stuff gets much more dangerous as we get older. My friend's husband won't let her jump anymore (she's in her mid-fifties) so she sneaks off to a friend's ranch to do it.

Sometimes I go camping in Indiana, where Pokagon is. I got stuck on a cantankerous quarter horse, because I had ridden before.

That horse didn't want me on him, and tried everything he could do to get rid of me. Seriously... he would rub up against trees which would require me to pull my foot out of the stirrup. He would also turn around an try to nip at my foot... and come up behind another horse... crowding it.

I think both of us wanted rid of each other by the time the ride was over.
