I'm so old I Remember when:

If you're mumbling, facing away from me, walking away from me, when there is ambient noise around, I can't hear you. I've started just ignoring what is said (unless I really want to know).

My hearing is still pretty good. But let's do it the other way. I will mumble while facing away from you, walking away from you, with lots of ambient noise.

There, isn't that annoying?

Oh, and if we're having a conversation, please for the love of all that is sane, TURN OFF THE MUSIC that is there for "the background." I've decided maybe I should just speak very quietly, so that maybe you'll think of that yourself. You seem annoyed if I ask you to turn off what nobody is listening to.

Ok, this post should be in the "things you wish you could say" thread. :)

Oh, @BigBlueHen53, I definitely thing you should do a blue or turquoise streak!

There are times I wish my hair were white. It's still mostly brown. To be able to do a color like turquoise or purple (or both; my favorite combination), they'd have to strip out the natural color. I don't want to do that.

That sounds really annoying.

I went to a wedding reception once earlier this year. It. Was. AWFUL. Loud music the whole dinner, I was leaning to my left half the time to hear what my friend was saying. Then they started the dancing and it was EVEN LOUDER. So loud the front glass on the venue was shaking. My Dad had enough. We had to leave. The priest who did the wedding left as well. You could hear it from outside the building and see the windows shaking. I went there to socialize, not get more hearing loss.

That seems like a better place for my above rant too.

The only color I've ever put on my hair, @Sally PB , is when I dyed it dark for my wedding 15 years ago. It was black in my youth, and I had the S/P thing going for a long time. But now it's this gorgeous platinum and I think it needs a little celebratory color. You know, something that says, I SURVIVED THE '60'S AND I'M STILL KICKIN'! :bun

Maybe dark purple says that. 🤔

They would have had to have been VERY dear friends for me to put up with that. Holy Toledo!

Yah. The Parents and some of The Siblings went to a reception last year as well and they said it was worse.

We went to one a few months ago and it was much better. Quiet background classical music, and it was outside. The only problem was that it rained and my nice church shoes got wrecked. They already need replacing so it wasn't that big of a deal. Oh, and they actually had good food and I got to talk to someone new and hear what they were saying.
