THE BEST! They came different sizes, Mine was the long one. and every kid had one back then. Dad would wax the runners with Gulf Paraffin.

We carried broken candles in our pockets!

EDIT to add ... not so we could find our way home because we stayed out sledding waaaaay too late (which of course, we usually did!) We used 'em to wax our runners (or the occasional saucer bottom) as needed. One must always be prepared, right?
