I remember whip oh wills on the roof, box turtles, lady slippers and wild quail in an area that is now completely developed. Milk was delivered on the front porch and my mom had diaper service. The meter reader would just open the unlocked basement door to read the electric bill that was low because there was no AC. A dial up phone with a long cord was edgy and my less fortunate girl friends had cheaper party lines where a total stranger could listen in. The world was a sepia color.

Now I'm sad. You reminded me of summer afternoons spent "talking" to the bob-whites. I haven't heard one in at least thirty years!

First time I saw fireflies was in my 30s when I was hiking in the east. I was absolutely fascinated. They are magical.

I never worried about that stuff as a kid. -just worried about making it home with both shoes. A few sneakers got lost, bogged in the mud while fetching a crawfish on some bacon.

We spent a lot of time on the bayou doing that. Catching frogs and shooting water moccasins. But when we went after crawfish we were catching them by the sacks.

We caught a lot of frogs and toads, too. I used to sneak them home and put them in the bathtub. My poor mother. She’d pull back the shower curtain, and frogs would be jumping everywhere.

I my husband sells my competition guns for what I paid for them, he is losing about 2/3 of their current value. Yes, from what I've seen, they are worth about 3 times what I paid for them.

I would have hurt you. Severely. I hate frogs and toads. To find them in my bathtub would be a heart attack waiting to happen
