Oh no. Much, much older. That was the last of my many smallpox shots. I think 1977 or 1978. I was just going to college I think.
The US stopped vaccinating earlier than that.

It was officially eradicated in 1980, but they stopped vaccinations in the US earlier

Yes. We traveled a lot. I think it was eradicated in Africa in the late 1970s. And yea, big scars!

I remember that too. Dad made us kids all come in and watch it, he said history was being made. He was right.

I remember it being cold that night. Dad brought the dog in the house. I was playing with the dog and the dog was barking at me. Dad got mad and took the dog back outside. At that point I started crying. I was 3 years old.
