I have been trying for months to upload an avatar, Yes I know it "should " be simple.

That is one good thing about paintbrush.

I set the thing to 100x100 pixels, then make a black lined box just that size.
Then I can stretch out so I have some space and fiddle until what I want fits in that box.
Once I have it settled then I move the box to the top corner, shrink the thing to 100x100 again and save.
Just have to be sure when you save that it's the right format... bmp, jpeg, gif, etc. depending on the site.
