I'm so sick from eating my quail's eggs??

Have tried a couple things to salvage a cracked for th incubator but nothing has worked. So if its cracked we eat it. There's no way 4 quail eggs would satisfy me. For a meal I want two chicken eggs or 8-10 quail eggs. Ours are coturnix.

My table eggs are JMF Americans so they are big eggs but 4-5 is plenty especially since I eat them raw.

Because of their nutritional concentration quail eggs are known to make some people nauseous, others can eat all they please and not be bothered as you obviously aren't.

It's less about what fills your stomach or satisfies your mind, than the fact that ten quail eggs would be like 20 chicken eggs nutritionally. After a certain point you're body is mostly taking the fat, saturated fat, calories, and protein. So I choose to limit myself to 4 eggs a day.

Quail eggs are rich little treats aint they! But I gotta say my egg consumption is just a tad more than 4 at a sitting....

I only eat them pickled and usually with copious amounts of beer! I dont know how many are in a pint jar but they dont last long sit'n around a fire with a few friends. It very well could have been mayo in the deviled eggs that made you sick too. It turns evil pretty fast!

I wash all eggs in dawn dish soap and store them in the fridge. I did notice one in each batch was cracked a bit. Any ideas??
I wanted to comment on this earlier, but got side tracked. Eggs shells are porous, so it is possible that your dish soap soaked through the shell, causing the stomach issue. When I collect my eggs, I put them into an egg carton and put them into the fridge. Then I rinse my eggs in cold water just before I cut them open.

Like you, I toss any eggs that are cracked.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate you all taking the time to write. I will take all this great advice into consideration. No more washing. Soap, amount, cracked, washing all could have come into play. And having a tummy bug probably played into it.

Fat Daddy, I'll be sure to wash them down with copious amounts of beer next time :) Oh, my daughter had tuna same day so mayo was ok.

Thanks again, all.

I read (somewhere lol) that some people feel bad after eating quail eggs because they have more protein and nutrition than chicken eggs? Maybe instead of an allergy some people are experiencing an overload of nutrients? Just an idea!

Here's a good link with info and references - http://www.livestrong.com/article/337189-quail-egg-nutrition/

"Quail eggs are low in calories. A serving of five eggs contains only 71 calories -- 4 percent of your daily calorie intake in a standard 2,000-calorie diet and roughly the same as one large chicken egg. Each serving of quail eggs provides you with 6 grams of protein to support the health of your skin and hair. Quail eggs also contain 5 grams of fat, including 1.6 grams of saturated fat per serving. Because saturated fat can boost your blood cholesterol levels -- and, in turn, contribute to heart disease -- you should eat quail eggs in moderation."

Edit: woops! I accidentally posted in the wrong "quail eggs making me sick thread" but I guess it's still relevant info?

I don't wash my eggs before storing in the fridge. Washing them can take off a protective layer that protects bacteria from entering the egg. Maybe if you really want to wash them, wash them right before u cook them.

You should never eat any cracked egg... bacteria can enter a cracked egg and that will make you ill... I know this is an old thread but I thought I would post anyway... :)

Thank you. I noticed one floating as it was boiling which is when I saw it was cracked. They will get tossed for now on!

Do quail eggs have a bloom or just chicken eggs? Your husband, is this only with quail eggs or chicken eggs too?

I find nothing when googling except salmonella which doesn't present this quickly.
I have found that floating eggs are simply a sign of an air pocket. This happens because they are not super fresh, but it does not mean they have gone bad. I have eaten many boiled quail eggs that floated because they were a little older. When you peel them, they are not a perfect oval, but have an air pocket. No problem eating them however.
